Nomadic herders crossing the Cedarberg mountain range, several hundred years ago, would drop pumpkin seeds at the spring (fontein) where they stopped for water. In this manner, pumpkins would grow around the fountain and henceforth the area acquired the name Pampoen Fontein. The farm has three fully equipped cottages for hire. They are all tastefully furnished and supplied with hand-embroidered bed linen, towels, wood, coffee, tea and soap. Every cottage has an indoor fireplace for winter (it snows on the farm from time to time!) and an outside braai area. All you need to take is food and drink.
